Understand how to pay dues and how to join (or renew) your membership

Attention: APA is no longer accepting new member applications for 2024

Society for the Advancement of Psychotherapy Membership is currently closed. If you choose to join between now and December 31, 2024, your membership will be activated on January 1, 2025 and will remain active until December 31, 2025. All memberships are on a calendar year.

New Members

New members are those who have never been a full member.

Read more about member benefits here: Join Us

Start by filling out the application form here: Membership Application

Note: If you are a student who recently received your degree and are looking to “upgrade” your membership from student to full, you will need to fill out a New Member Application.

Our membership fee is only $40 per year ($20 for students).

If you’re already in the APA, a subscription to Psychotherapy alone would cost $77 a year ($150/year for non-members!) Division 29 members get Psychotherapy free.

And if you’re not a member of APA, the savings are significant!

Renewing Your Membership (APA Full, Associate, or Fellow members)

APA will handle these. You can check to see that your membership is up to date by logging into my.apa.org.

Important Information About Your Membership

Members have access to our lively listserv, providing thought-provoking news, upcoming events and connecting our community

The Society for the Advancement of Psychotherapy operates interactive listservs for members, which provide an efficient mechanism for sharing information about research, practice and advocacy within the field of psychotherapy. Only members of the Division may join the Division listservs. The Division office only posts official division business to the listserv. It will not post anything for others, especially requests for research participants. Members may post their own notices, requests, and messages within the rules and standards set for APA-administered listservs. The Division reserves the right to remove any individual from the listserv for any reason.

Existing members can join any our Listservs by sending an email to listserv@lists.apa.org and typing any of the following commands in the body of the email:

  • Join our general members listserv by typing subscribe div29 Your Name in the body of the email.
  • You can leave a listserv by typing unsubscribe div29 Your Name in the body of an email sent to listserv@lists.apa.org.
  • Post to the general Division 29 listserv by sending an email to DIV29@lists.apa.org.
